How To Give Back On Black Friday
Black Friday seems more like a weekend of chaos and consumerism that most Americans go crazy about. Over the past couple of years, I’ve decided that I’m going to opt out of the Black Friday madness. I’ve never enjoyed pushing through a crowd for deals on a toy or crockpot. Y’all, life is so much more than the things we own! It’s about our experiences and spending time with loved ones and giving back to those who are in most need. Therefore, below I’m sharing 3 tips to avoiding Black Friday, and not get sucked into the craziness.
Opt Outside
It’s so refreshing to spend the day outside, rather than fighting crowds for deals that sometimes aren’t even worth it. Instead, take in some fresh air and get your bum outdoors. Go on a walk or hike with family, or if weather allows, spend some time at the beach! Trust me, it’s liberating to take in the beautiful world around you and feel grateful for what you’re already given. I usually like to spend Black Friday getting my Christmas tree and decorating with those I love! Post your adventures outside with the hashtag #optoutside.
Support Small Businesses on Saturday Instead
Small businesses are what makes the world go round! When you purchase from a small business, you’re helping to make a difference and supporting them and their family. We all have bills due each month, so when you shop small, you’re helping us stay in business doing what we love. So shop locally and support those who work hard to keep their dreams alive.
Make A Donation To Your Favorite Charity
This Black Friday, instead of spending the money on sale items that (let’s be honest) you really don’t need, donate to an organization that you feel passionate about! There is a lot happening in this world right now and so many non-profits working around the clock to help those truly in need to create change. We can all agree that we can spare $10 or $20 to help others.
As part of my business values, I’m going to be making a donation to AdoptTogether . It was World Adoption Day in November and AdoptTogether is a crowdfunding site to help families in the process of adoption. The other nonprofit I’m going to make a donation to is my own fundraising campaign with Good City Mentors so I can reach my goal of sponsoring an inner city youth for a year! Good City Mentors provides mentorship programs in inner city schools in LA to help students build a brighter future for themselves.
So let’s get outside friends, spend quality time with loved ones, support small businesses any way we can and give our money to those charities in most need! Making a difference starts with us and spreading it to those around us!
