Top Things to Consider When Planning a Winter Wedding

From creating a budget to selecting a venue, there are various steps newly engaged couples take planning their wedding day. Over the years, the months of June to October have become known as “wedding season.” In the past, I’ve written advice on planning your summer wedding as well as planning a wedding in the fall. However, some couples out there who can appreciate the beauty in celebrating their special day during the winter months. Who doesn’t love twinkly lights and maybe even some snow? It’s almost like your wedding decor has already been taken care of! Below, I’ve compiled a few tips to help ease the planning of a winter wedding and keep you as stress-free as possible leading up to your best day ever!
Embrace the Season

Hosting a winter wedding may mean colder temperatures, and maybe even snowy weather but there are plenty of ways to turn that into a positive. To begin, when selecting your venue, consider choosing a location that offers lodging on the premises or close by. This will provide your guests, especially those who are traveling, a place to stay and easy access to your venue in case of any type of weather related issues.
Another fun idea is to provide your guests with warm weather necessities such as scarves or blankets. These are functional and add a touch of personality to your ceremony or reception. You can even use them as an escort display like this couple! If you’re on a budget, often times items like blanket scarves are available to purchase in bulk. Which is helpful, especially if you have a large guest list. No matter your approach, adapting to the season and incorporating these touches throughout your big day will be fun for you and your guests!
Adjust Your Skincare Routine

Depending on your location, winter can bring about some pretty frigid temperatures. These weather conditions can wreak havoc on various areas of your body, especially your skin. Shifting your skincare routine in the months leading up to your winter wedding day is essential to look your best. Think of all the photos you’ll be taking! Many people fail to switch their summer skin care routine once winter rolls around, but this is quite important. Most summer products do not contain the moisturizing ingredients needed to combat the cold-weather season.
For the gentlemen, consider layering in a facial moisturizer designed to fit all skin types. This is a simple, yet effective way to keep your face hydrated and smooth, especially between shaves. Speaking of shaving, if you’re going for the rugged look on your wedding day, invest in a quality beard oil. Beard oil is not only formulated to soften your beard and tame flyaways, but also keeps the skin underneath well-moisturized. An anti-aging cream is a great addition to your skin care routine (at any age). And lastly, if you are interested in exploring how to have your best hair, check out these hair treatments!
Ladies, you too can keep things pretty simple with the right product swap. Once the cold weather sets in, begin working in a moisturizer that best suits your skin type. Keep in mind that the dryer your skin tends to become, the thicker the cream should be. If your skin is extra dry already, look for products containing ingredients like shea butter and hyaluronic acid. To take your skin care routine even further, invest in an anti-aging cream. Using as directed leading up to your big day will help smooth fine lines and correct dark spots leaving your skin picture perfect when it’s time to walk down the aisle.
Bonus tip: While investing in the proper skin care is important, one of the fundamentals of maintaining healthy skin is staying hydrated. Drinking the proper amount of water improves the appearance of your skin while simultaneously boosting energy levels, strengthening brain function and protecting you from illness. Staying hydrated, especially on your wedding day, can also lead to an easier recovery from all the partying!
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

This advice holds true to any event in general, no matter the season. Life happens so it’s important that you and your spouse-to-be remind one another not to sweat the small stuff! Or any stuff at all! You only have so much control over what goes on. And once your wedding day arrives, the best thing you can do is simply embrace the day. Because it will be over in the blink of an eye. As long as you’re both there, surrounded by loved ones, the day has gone exactly as it was meant to! You may have a vision in your head of how things will go, but there’s no such thing as perfect. The good news is, if anything goes slightly wrong, your guests will have zero idea! All of your planning and hard work will pay off the moment you say, “I do.” The best thing you can do is go with the flow and enjoy the party!
With some planning, preparation, and a little patience, your winter wedding can be the best day of your life. Remember, embrace the season, take care of your body, and roll with the punches.
