6 ways to include your mom in your wedding day celebrations

Without a doubt, your wedding day is about you and your partner. However, I always get questions from my clients asking the best ways to include family members into the celebration as well! In honor of Mother’s Day, here are ways brides and grooms can include your mom in your wedding day.

Bring your mom shopping

Bring your mom with you to try on different dresses and suits! It’s the perfect way to incorporate her into the decisions. Besides, your mother has experience dressing you and can probably tell you what looks best (in her opinion). If your mother isn’t local to you, you could consider organizing a special trip. Or ask the bridal or tux shop if you can facetime your mom, so you get reactions in real time! She’ll feel like she’s actually there!

Ask the moms to wear similar dresses or colors

Choose a color close to your scheme and ask each mother or mother figure in your life to wear it. This could also work for a style of dress! This way, all the mothers have a special look unique to them! I found this tip to be especially great for families that might have experienced divorce and want stepparents to feel equally part of the celebration.

Let your mom help you get ready

Whether you are a bride or a groom, this can be a really special moment for your mother to share with you. Brides can ask their mom to zip up the back of their dress or help put on the shoes you’ll walk down the aisle in. I also encourage grooms to ask for their mom’s help as well. She can fix your tie or pin your boutonniere!

Wear a family heirloom

Whether it’s a piece of your mother’s own wedding dress, or something special to her, try to incorporate it into your day as your something old! One member of my team had her mom pin an angel broche that belonged to her late grandmother to her bouquet before she walked down the aisle. It was a special way to include her mom and her mom’s mom.

Copy your mother’s wedding bouquet

Take a note from your mother’s wedding bouquet and design your bridal bouquet in that same style or, for grooms, request similar flowers for your boutonniere to wear on the big day! Another option is to give your mom a single flower from her bouquet on a corsage. Not only will this help her feel extra special on your day, it’s a sweet reminder of her own wedding day.

Special dance or speech

Dancing with your mom at your wedding is a tradition I adore! Choose a song that you feel best reflects your mother or a song that’s near to her heart! Alternatively, you could ask your mother to give a special reading during the ceremony or a speech during the reception!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, aunts and mother figures in your life! You’re the real heroes and we love you!
