Why A FAQ Page Is Your Wedding Website’s Best Friend

I wrote about why having a wedding website can be life-changing when it comes to planning your wedding, but I want to dive deeper into including a FAQ page. Even though you can pack a lot of information throughout your wedding website, it’s always a good idea to have a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. It may feel repetitive but, some guests may rely on a straight-forward answer. A FAQ page can also help set expectations for guests and avoid awkward situations or conversations down the line. So below, I broke down some of the FAQ’s you should include on your wedding website:

Ceremony + Reception Details

The details of your celebration should go here. Give guests step-by-step instruction on how to get to your venue, when to arrive, where to park, etc. This is also a good time to let guests know a rough idea of the schedule. You don’t have to break it down minute by minute, but especially for weddings with multiple events, it’s nice to give your guests a heads up. Here are some question suggestions: 

• Is the ceremony + reception in the same place?
• What is the best way to get to the venue?
• Where do we park once we arrive?
• Is there a shuttle available?
• What time should I arrive at the venue?
• Is the ceremony/reception indoor or outdoor?
• What is the wedding itinerary?
• When does the reception end?
• Is there an after-party?

Parking

I swear, some of the biggest complaints from guests are based around parking situations. Alleviate any stress for guests by letting them know what to expect. I also suggest a traffic question because, let’s be honest; in LA, you need to give yourself extra time just for traffic alone. Here are a few other suggestions: 

• Will there be valet or parking at the venue?
• Is parking free or is there a fee?
• How do I find a shuttle?
• What is the shuttle schedule?
• What is traffic like in your city?
• Can we take a ride share there?

Food

Another important detail to give guests are their options for food. Especially if someone has a food allergy, it’s crucial they know what to expect and how to communicate their dietary restrictions. Likewise, if you plan to have a cash bar definitely let guests know to bring money. I guarantee these days, some guests won’t have cash handy unless you prepare them.

• Will food be served during cocktail hour?
• Will food be served at reception?
• What kind of food will be served?
• What if I have a food allergy or dietary restriction?
• Is cocktail hour cash bar or open bar? 

Dress Code

Giving your guests an idea on the dress code will help set the tone for your big day. If you’re planning an elevated, upscale wedding, would you be offended if someone wore jeans? (It’s happened!) Or someone might feel out of place if they are over or under dressed for the day. Not sure what to put down for attire? I have a blog post all about wedding dress codes here! 

• What is the dress code?
• Anything you prefer we don’t wear?
• Any uneven surfaces we should be mindful of? (**Think high heels and lawns…ouch!)
• What is the weather like that time of year?

RSVP

A really important element of your wedding website is making sure guests know how and when to RSVP. This impacts just about everything in your budget + planning, so you’ll want an accurate count. If you’re unsure whether to give a guest a plus one, or when to set the RSVP deadline, I have a blog post about that (and more etiquette) here!

• Can I bring a +1?
• Are kids allowed?
• When should I RSVP by?
• Should I mail in my RSVP or is it online?

Hotels + Accommodations

If you’re having a lot of out-of-town guests attending your nuptials, letting them know about the hotel blocks or accommodations in the area will help immensely! Imagine if you’re visiting Los Angeles for the first time and what a vast difference 20 miles means between a hotel and venue location. Out-of-town guests may not know the best spots or convenient areas.

• Where do you have hotel blocks?
• When should I book my hotel room by?
• Is there a shuttle to the venue from the hotel?
• How do I find a shuttle?

Destination Wedding or Out-of-Town Guests

Similar to above, add in any questions for out-of-town guests on ways they can entertain themselves while they’re in town. This is also a great time to let them know of other events outside of the wedding that may impact their travel dates: 

• What would you recommend we do while in town?
• Any other wedding events we need to know about?

Unplugged vs Plugged?

Unplugged weddings are trending big time and I am here for it! I love having your guests be fully immersed in the day and letting all photos be taken by the hired professional. However, not everyone may be aware if this is your preference or not. If so, answer those questions here. (Or post a cute sign like this couple!)

• Can I take/post pictures + video online?
• Do you have a wedding hashtag?

Gift Registry

“Where are you registered?” might be one of the most frequently asked questions you will receive as an engaged couple. People just want to shower you with gifts! Even if you have a separate registry page on your wedding website, add links or information in your FAQ page as well. • Where are you registered?
• Where can we send gifts that are on your registry?

Contact Info

Please add contact info to your FAQ page! I can’t tell you how many brides + grooms are fielding questions (see above) instead of relaxing the morning of their wedding. It can be a member of the wedding party, a family member or even your planner (hi!), but I strongly suggest designating someone else to help answer any questions guests may have. 

• Who can I contact with questions before the wedding?
• Who can I contact with questions day of the wedding?
