Sharing My Engagement Story + The Moment I Said “Yes!”
Kari here! Your favorite wedding planner, here to tell you my engagement story. 🙂
Recently, my now fiancé and I went to visit my family back in Iowa for a couple of weeks. We wanted to spend time at the lake and had a big family reunion with 70 family members! It was so fun to see everyone because I truly love my whole extended family! Prior to our trip, Jeremy and I had designed my engagement ring together with my good friend, Jen, at Love Verite. So, I knew it was coming soon but just had no idea how he was going to do it.
Earlier in the week, before the larger family reunion, my immediate family were all together at my parents’ house (the house that I grew up in). Everyone was getting dressed up for family photos, some cocktails in the backyard and a delicious dinner. It crossed my mind that “maybe he’s proposing tonight!” because of a few weird things that had happened earlier in the day but, I brushed it off as a “probably not!”.
The Proposal Set Up
After photos, we sipped cocktails in the backyard + ate dinner. Then we proceeded to have a few more drinks and were sitting around chatting; enjoying the midwest summer night in my parent’s front yard. One of my brothers asked me to show him something in the backyard that I was prepping for the upcoming family reunion. So, I went into the house to get something and then headed outside with my brother to the backyard. As we were walking, I noticed some string lights above the trees and said, “What are those for?”. As we came around the corner of the trees, I saw Jeremy standing there with our dog, Dublin. Beautiful music played in the background as the sun was setting. It was truly a magical moment! And it was really special since it happened at one of my favorite places, the place where I grew up!
My sister-in-laws and brother captured photos and video of the proposal. Which was something that was so important to me and special. I love that he knew to propose in the most special of ways and that my whole family was there to celebrate with me! Enjoy a few of the photos below! 🙂
