A Styled Shoot That’s Sweet As Candy!

I Want Candy!
Did you start singing the classic “I Want Candy” song when you read that? If so, you’ve come to the right place! It’s really no secret that I have a sweet tooth. (I even planned a wedding at Sugarfina!) So when I began the design process for this cotton candy inspired styled shoot, I wanted every detail to feel light and airy, with a hint of sweetness.
I reached out to Jolly Sheep Cotton Candy Company to help me bring this vision to life. Because honestly, how much fun would it be to have a cotton candy stand during your cocktail hour or for dessert? (Here’s more unique wedding dessert ideas) Then I asked The Unique Space to be the backdrop because I love that venue so much. It’s such an incredible, eccentric gem, right in the heart of downtown LA. (Check out some of my favorite weddings we’ve had at The Unique Space here and here.) The trickiest part of this styled shoot was that the day of, it was beyond windy! We tried to get what we needed without everything blowing away. Talk about light and airy! In the end, I think it helped set the tone for the day and proves that when the weather hands you a challenge, you pivot!
For the color palette, I knew I wanted it to feel fresh and springy, but not in a traditional pastel way. So instead, we leaned on using muted sunset and earth tones to keep things grounded and modern. The Unique Space has a sunset colored wall and that also played a huge part in the design and inspiration of everything, including my friend Whitney’s colorful wedding dress. We used variations of pink, peach, orange, yellow, and neutral tones throughout the whole design. For the florals, we incorporated springtime blooms such as Iceland Poppy flowers, ranunculus and pampas grass. Additionally, I really wanted to use natural elements like a macrame table runner and a lot of greenery.
Bridal Trends
One of my favorite pieces of this styled shoot was the soft rainbow wedding dress that Whitney wore for the shoot. I’m absolutely obsessed with it. The way the dress moved was literally like dancing on a cloud. Perfect for a cotton candy inspired styled shoot, right? I love seeing brides embrace color in their wedding dresses. Also, who else is in love with the bridal jean jacket trend? A recent bride of mine had one, and I loved it so much, I knew we had to incorporate it here!
I really love the way this styled shoot all came together! And I think it’d be especially perfect if you were planning a more intimate micro-wedding or elopement, because let’s be honest, 2020. If you want more styled shoot inspiration, be sure to check out this post here.
